Birds

We are currently looking at birds and their habitats. We are investigating how birds use their beaks to help their survival. Click on the title "Bird" to find some great information about beaks.

Junior Tabloid Sports

On Thursday 27 March the junior school held their tabloid sports. Our class was in charge of running the games. We had to set up each activity, explain the rules, manage about 20 children at a time, and keep smiling! all in 7 minute rotations. As James said , "It was a lot harder than we thought!" But we showed the virtues of responsibility and excellence during the whole time and we definitely want to do it all again next year!

The Bush

I’m running as fast as I can and then I stop

dead in my tracks, I listen for a moment. I can hear nothing; I sit down and stay very still. I hear a cicada starting to chatter, a bird starting to chirp and the wind starting to blow against the tough trees. I like this place and I will surely come back again.

I’m back and I’m only walking this time and it is quiet, very quiet. The birds are not singing soundly, the cicada is not chattering and chirping and the wind is not so strong. It’s night time.

Fantails

The Fantails

Chirping fantails flitter quickly off the ground,

hunting bugs and worms with their beaks.
Fluttering to nests,

feeding their chicks.

Fantails flitter-flutter off again.

The Tui

Soaring way up high,
Darting from tree to tree.

Hunting on a fern frond,
He can see you and me.

Singing, eating, gliding,
Breathing in fresh air.
Living the life a Tui should,
now he’s over there.

It sits in the Macrocarpa tree,
Cleaning it’s white wavy feathers,
Listening to wonderful sounds.

Thinking about breakfast,
he doesn’t want crunchy cereal or
delicious bacon and eggs,
he wants a good old big juicey spider or
two
